Have you ever wondered what the response to the Korean drama "A Man Called God" was like in Korea? In this post, we will review the Korean drama "A Man Called God(2010)" and explore its unique characteristics.

Twenty-five years ago, Kang-Ta witnessed the tragic deaths of his family and was sent to the US as a foster child. He adopted a new identity, Michael, and learned to survive in the criminal underworld. Now, he returns to Korea with a mission to avenge his family by taking down their four enemies.

The poster for A Man Called God featured the main cast, Song Il-gook.

  • Choi Kang-Ta (Song Il-gook)
  • Jin Bo-bae (Han Chae-young)
  • Hwang Woo-hyun (Kim Min-jong)
  • Vivian Castle (Han Go-eun)

Song Il-gook is a Korean actor who has given outstanding performances in many historical dramas. One of his most notable roles was in the historical drama “Jumong” (2006), where he played the title role of Jumong, the founding king of the Goguryeo kingdom. The drama was a huge success both domestically and internationally, earning him a Best Actor award at the 2007 KBS Drama Awards.

Attractive Points

One of the main attractions of "A Man Called God (2010)" is the strong characterization of the main lead, Song Il-gook's portrayal of Choi Kang-ta. Choi Kang-ta is a charismatic character, and Song Il-gook's acting is both action-packed and suspenseful. Since the drama's plot revolves around Choi Kang-ta's life, much of the show's appeal hinges on his character's portrayal.

Another appealing aspect of the drama is the variety of action scenes. Choi Kang-ta is a wealthy man, and the drama is supposed to be the Korean version of the James Bond series. As a result, there are numerous action scenes in the drama, such as yacht action scenes and building action scenes. However, as I will explain later, the drama failed to satisfy many viewers in terms of action scenes.

Ratings and Reviews

Rating

"A Man Called God" received poor reviews due to a plot that loosened up towards the end. Despite this, the drama received moderate ratings, hovering around the 15% mark, especially thanks to the loyal fan base of the comics it was based on.

Review

However, the drama had to endure a lot of harsh criticism from viewers throughout its run, with the most common complaint being the poor quality of CG. Although the show is over a decade old, the substandard CG was still a topic of discussion when it aired, and the show was even compared to a children's drama.

In addition to the CG, the show was also criticized for its unconvincing storyline. Viewers felt that the main character, who came to Korea for revenge, focused more on his romance with the female lead than on revenge, resulting in a low rating of 2.5 on Korean ratings site WATCHA.

Behind the Scenes

here are some interesting facts about this drama

  • The drama is based on a popular comic book series of the same name.
  • The show made waves because it was actually filmed in Hawaii.
  • It was scheduled to air in Japan, but was postponed indefinitely due to Song Il-gook's comments about Dok-do.

In conclusion, "A Man Called God" may have received poor reviews and criticism from viewers for its weak plot and shoddy CG, but it still managed to maintain moderate ratings thanks to the loyal fan base of its source material. Overall, "A Man Called God" falls short in comparison to other Korean dramas in terms of quality and execution.
